I’m thrilled to be running for the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education.

My family has deep roots in Beverly Hills, and I’m the proud mom of Teddy, a 3rd generation BHUSD student. From pre-school teacher to paralegal to PTA executive board, my experience has given me the skills and perspective necessary to bring our district’s focus back to where it belongs – the students.

I can’t wait to share my vision for BHUSD with you in the months ahead.

Hi, I’m Kim.

My Background

I received a BA in Political Science from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, the town in which I was born and raised. During my time in college, I completed coursework and internships in child development and education while also teaching at a local preschool and interning at the Connecticut state capitol. I also hold a paralegal certificate with distinction from UCLA’s Paralegal Training Program.

I have over 15 years of paralegal experience, primarily in litigation, entertainment contracts, intellectual property, and non-profits. I left my last paid position in early 2020 to care for my son after he was diagnosed with an exceptionally rare genetic condition. I devoted myself full time to his education during the pandemic, and have continued to do so even after he started school in the district in 2022.

My Connection to BHUSD

My husband, Daniel Lifschitz, is an attorney and adjunct law professor, a native of Beverly Hills, and a graduate of Beverly Hills High School, as are all 4 of his siblings, his mother, and his stepmother. Our son, Teddy, is a 3rd generation Beverly Hills resident and BHUSD student. He attends Horace Mann Elementary, where he’s in the 3rd grade and is also a member of the PRIME class.

Why I am running

I’m running for Beverly Hills School Board because when it comes to who it serves, how it spends its money, and why it’s making headlines, we can all agree – it’s time for BHUSD to get back to school. The health and success of our children are at stake, and it’s the students of this district who must be our number one priority. That’s what I care about. That’s what I will always care about.

In recent years, our district has been sidetracked by interpersonal conflict, opaque decision-making, and a litany of avoidable legal and PR crises. Community members are treated as political adversaries instead of valued stakeholders. Successful programs, new initiatives, and academic growth are put in jeopardy when our reputation is damaged, talented teachers and administrators leave, and enrollment drops.

Relevant Experience

My involvement in BHUSD has included serving as a room parent, a member of the Horace Mann PTA executive board, and an advocate for educational opportunities for all students.

As a parent, I’ve seen how the priorities set in the Hawthorne board room affect progress in the classroom. My years of experience as a paralegal have shaped me into someone who is prepared, thorough, and able to navigate big personalities while also remaining deeply respectful of the law. Finally, serving as a room parent and PTA executive board member has shown me what’s possible when a group of people commit to a singular focus: the kids.

What I love about this community

BHUSD is a truly singular district. It combines the resources and boundless potential of a big city with the accessibility and person-to-person interaction of a small town. The same district that shaped my husband and his parents has now embraced my son, and it’s a gift for which I am profoundly grateful. I’ve found such fulfillment in using my skills and experience to help members of the BHUSD community on an individual level, and I’m so excited to do the same as a member of the board.
